historic
Experience our passion for relics from bygone days, whether it’s the sun-burned wood chopped by hand from 200-year-old granaries that adorns our facade and our beams. The massive lintels over our fireplaces and doors – no two are the same. The paving stones, over which carriages once thundered, or the clinker bricks, washed by the rough Baltic Sea.
House symbols
House symbols are burnt into the beams of most Walser houses in Schanfigg. Heavily abstract and strictly geometric, they tell stories of Grisons families and generations who had to frequently pack – and unpack – their belongings on their hike across the Alps. Our chalet also carries one of these symbols, helping this tradition to live on.
ARCHITECTURE
Our interior design approach: sophisticated and selective.
Our BelArosa Chalet is a feast for the eyes. Traditional Grisons architecture meets modern conveniences: a world of experience featuring natural materials and elements from different eras and all over the world.
World Trips.
They’ve come a long way: the split clinker bricks in the chimneys tell of the rough Baltic Sea, while the eaves are made from antique door walls weighing up to 700 kilos. The antique oak on our facade protected grain in the field 200 years ago. Now, it covers the impressive steel structure of our roof. This fusion of antique touches and new innovations conjures up our unique, authentically cosy atmosphere – with a pinch of extravagance, too.
Step Inside.
No two doors to our chalets are alike. They bear their very own signature, whether interspersed with inlays, whether carved or made of a special piece of wood. You won’t forget our doors in a hurry: they’re characterful little works of art.
Dolce Vita.
All our furniture comes from northern Italy and is a real family affair. Our furnishings partner is Villevenete, a company run by the Gatti family for three generations. Together with the designers, each piece of furniture was individually adapted to our needs. Everything has to sit just right: the heights of the chair legs, the table lengths and the diameter of the seats. Then, there are hundreds of cushions, curtains and upholstery covers to go with everything – all told, a true work of art, like the entire BelArosa Chalet itself.
Sun-burned.
Wood is part and parcel of every chalet. And not just any wood – but ancient wood. ‘Brenner’s Altholz’ near Salzburg vouches for these finds that adorn our facade, interior, roof and balconies. They’re hand-hewn, sun-burned spruce beams or antique oak from huge granaries of yesteryear. Each piece is examined with metal detectors, then washed and brushed, so that we can run our bare hands over the sun-burned wood or feel the letters engraved into a beam. So that we can listen to their stories – stories about traditions, mountains, homeland.
